Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that the majority of its staff will continue to work from home until at least June 2021, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact everyday life.

According to Bloomberg, Tim Cook hosted a virtual “town hall” with employees yesterday (December 10), and confirmed that, although he’d prefer staff to be working together at Apple Park and other facilities, the company has learnt a great deal about remote work.

“There’s no replacement for face-to-face collaboration, but we have also learned a great deal about how we can get our work done outside of the office without sacrificing productivity or results,” Tim Cook said, according to sources at Bloomberg.

“All of these learnings are important. When we’re on the other side of this pandemic, we will preserve everything that is great about Apple while incorporating the best of our transformations this year.”

Apple has traditionally been an office-centric organization, with executives preferring teams to work collaboratively on projects in-house. Although the company has introduced a raft of changes to enable more flexible working during the pandemic, Cook hopes that more staff can return to the campus in the months ahead. Right now, Apple Park is running at 15% occupancy, according to previous reports.

Cook also confirmed that staff would receive an additional paid holiday on January 4.
