‘Ms. Marvel’ pushed back to 2022

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has now established itself in both cinemas and on television, thanks to several highly successful Disney+ series that have aired (or are still airing) on the platform in the past year. Now, the success of the previous shows fueled the planning and production of new ones, among them Ms. Marvel, focusing on the titular teenage heroine Kamala Khan, which has now been – as reports state – been pushed back to 2022 from its originally planned late 2021 release date.

The news, which hasn’t been officially confirmed by either Marvel or Disney as of yet, has been revealed via Twitter by Variety Senior Entertainment Writer Adam B. Vary, who said: “I’ve confirmed what was obvious to most Marvel Studios observers: [Ms. Marvel] has moved from a late 2021 release on Disney Plus to 2022.”

Now, this doesn’t really come as a surprise, seeing how we haven’t seen any real promotional material for the show, and late 2021 is very close, but it should still be a big disappointment for the fans who wanted to see Kamala debut in the MCU. Kamala Khan, i.e., Ms. Marvel has had her mainstream out-of-comics debut in the Marvel’s Avengers video game, where she was one of the protagonists. The character and her evolution have been well-received by both fans and critics, which, of course, hyped the fans for the television series.

This delay has, truth be told, already been anticipated by some media, who broke the news that Ms. Marvel would debut in early 2022, i.e., in February 2022, which seems to be in line with Vary’s recent tweet. The show is still shrouded in mystery and we don’t know anything about the plot, except for the fact that the MCU version of Ms. Marvel might have some different powers from her original comic book counterpart. The show will star Iman Vellani as the titular heroine; Vellani is also set to reprise her role in the upcoming movie The Marvels, alongside Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau actors Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris.

Even with the delay, as it stands now, Ms. Marvel is going to arrive on Disney+ very soon.
