NASA App, with Real-Time View of Earth, Reaches Apple TV

NASA has brought out a version of its official app for the fourth generation Apple TV. Owners of the set-top box can now live stream NASA TV and enjoy a real-time view of Earth on the big screen.

In a press release, David Weaver, NASA associate administrator for Communications, said that the agency’s app, previously released for iPhone and iPad, “has been a fantastic way for the public to experience the excitement of space exploration from their mobile devices”.

He added: “Now, users with the latest Apple TV can explore and enjoy our remarkable images, videos, mission information, NASA Television and more”. Indeed, over 15,000 images, plus on-demand NASA videos, are available for viewing on this new Apple TV app.

It can also discern the user’s location to indicate when the International Space Station and other NASA satellites will next pass overhead for viewing. Other features in the app, now free in the Apple TV’s App Store, include the latest NASA mission details and an Earth as Art image gallery.
