Neo Console Won’t Shorten PS4’s Lifecycle, Sony Exec Says

The recently-announced Neo, a more powerful version of the PlayStation 4, might be on the way – but the standard PlayStation 4 we are all familiar with isn’t going anywhere, a Sony executive says.

Responding to a question concerning whether console generations are shortening, with Sony and Microsoft having both just announced hardware upgrades to their consoles, PlayStation Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida insisted: “Well no, PS4 is PS4, you know the new high-end PS4 is still PS4, so you know the lifecycle is not going to be shorter”.

Yoshida’s comments, made in an interview with German website Gameswelt.TV and reported by GameSpot, echo the recent claim of Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Andrew House that Neo is “an additional option, it’s a high-end version of a PlayStation 4, let’s be very clear about that, rather than a generational shift.” However, the Neo’s release date has yet to be announced.
