Apple could be readying the release of a new 4K Apple TV box, according to new reports.

Jon Prosser – who has a reliable track record when it comes to revealing upcoming Apple products and releases – has suggested that a next-generation 4K Apple TV is ready to ship.

He took to Twitter to reveal that the new device could come with an A12X chip and will be sold in 64GB and 128GB storage options, adding that the device could “drop at any time”.

Prosesser added that he didn’t have any specifics on when the new device would launch, so don’t expect to see a new Apple TV on sale next week.

The company could hold off until its virtual WWDC20 in June, where tvOS will be given some new features as it is every year.

Apple could even boost the performance to make tvOS more attractive to gamers, pushing the Apple Arcade service and encouraging people to pay $4.99 for some new gaming titles.

Back in January, Apple TV references were spotted in the iOS 13.4 beta, suggesting that the company was working on a version with an A12 chip. Previously, it had been suggested that Apple would ship the next-generation model in 64GB and 128GB storage capacities.

Aside from a new processor, which should help to improve performance when playing Apple Arcade games, it’s unlikely that Apple will make any significant changes to its set-top box, though other insiders have suggested that the company could refresh the remote control.

It has also been suggested that Apple is working on a new low-cost Apple TV, perhaps in the form of a stick or dongle, to make its Apple TV+ content more accessible to consumers.
