New App Enables iPhone to Replace Apple TV’s Siri Remote

Apple has just released a new app, Apple TV Remote, which lets owners of the fourth generation Apple TV easily use an iPhone in place of that set-top box’s feature-rich Siri Remote.

On an iPhone, the app can be used, like the Siri Remote, to navigate the options on Apple TV with simple swipes. The app also enables the Apple TV to be navigated with touch gestures, while the iPhone’s on-screen keyboard can now be used for entering text, email addresses and passwords.

Asking Siri for help finding something new is also possible through the app, as is controlling a playing movie, TV show or song. You can also turn on a Game Mode for simplified controls when gaming.

Apple TV Remote is now free to download for iOS devices running iOS 9.3.2 or later and for use with fourth generation Apple TVs on tvOS 9.2.1 or later. The app can also be used with third generation Apple TVs on Apple TV Software 7.2.1 and second generation Apple TVs using Apple TV Software 6.2.1.
