Owners of handsets running Windows Phone 8.1 can rejoice – a peculiar new beta app recently spotted in the Windows Store hints that they will soon be able to update their devices to Windows 10 Mobile.
Neowin reports that the app, called Upgrade Advisor Beta, was spotted by the Twitter user Gustave M. However, it is not yet available for the public to download; instead, special permissions are currently needed to install, as the app has been published by Microsoft’s ‘Internal Beta Account’.
Hmm, Update advisor for 8.1 you say?

Nonetheless, the app’s description is highly promising. The app appears to work much like the desktop Get Windows 10 app, as it pledges to discern whether a Windows Phone 8.1 handset is suitable and eligible for upgrading to Windows 10 Mobile.
Microsoft had previously intended to issue updates to Windows 10 Mobile for Windows Phone 8.1 users in December, before delaying without specifying a new, precise timetable. However, Neowin has noted that various European network operators have indicated that the updates are nearly ready.
It reports, for example, claims from the French carrier Bouygues Telecom that updates will arrive next week for the Lumia models 635, 640, 640 XL, 730, 735, 830, 930, 1520, and 532/535/540/636/638.
