A new report has revealed where users purchase their new iPhones.
Although Apple offers an unbeatable shopping experience, whether you’re purchasing in one of its Apple Stores or online, the majority of consumers in the United States purchase their devices elsewhere.
The most popular place for purchasing a new iPhone is from a phone carrier store – either in person or online – though Apple Stores do come out in second place, behind third-party retailer Best Buy which accounts for 4% of all iPhone sales in the country.
The data is as follows:
Mobile carrier stores and online: 67%
Apple Retail: 24%
Other: 5%
Best Buy 4%
The CIRP report reveals that more than 75% of iPhone sales in the US come from third-party retailers, which should be viewed as a “weak spot for Apple,” according to the report.
“More than 75% of US iPhone sales are outside of the Apple retail universe, and that is a weak spot for Apple,” they said in a statement. “When a customer selects their new iPhone – the model, storage capacity, and even color – an event that only occurs every two or three or more years for most consumers, most sales are managed by a carrier salesperson or processed on a carrier website, all out of Apple’s careful control.”
