Apple has announced that all seven novels in the hugely popular fantasy series Harry Potter are now available in new, digitally enhanced editions exclusively on iBooks.
As well as the complete original text, each of the enhanced books comes with interactive animations, intricate artwork, the custom Harry Potter typefaces, and new section headers and drop caps. Each title also has an exclusive custom cover and, throughout the pages, annotations written by the series writer J. K. Rowling. The bought books can be read on an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Mac.
Rowling expressed her thrill “to see the Harry Potter books so beautifully realized on iBooks for the digital world; the artwork and animations in these enhanced editions bring the stories alive in a delightful new way”. Apple CEO Tim Cook added that “Harry Potter fans are going to love how their favorite stories come to life” and that “we’re thrilled to offer them exclusively on the iBooks Store.”
Up until the release of these enhanced editions, digital versions of the much-loved Harry Potter books had been available for purchase only from the Pottermore Shop. These new editions can be bought in English for $9.99 each in 32 countries, with French, German and Spanish versions on the way for November 9 in another 18 countries.
