We might not yet have our hands on the iPhone 13, but the rumor mill is already going into overdrive for next year’s iPhone 14, set to be released in September 2022.
For a while, experts have been suggesting that Apple will remove the notch entirely, and early leaks now correspond to this. According to Jon Prosser and now Ross Young, it seems like Apple will remove the notch from its 2022 iPhone in favor of a hole-punch camera, and an under-display Face ID feature to eliminate the need for additional visible components featured on the notch.
Earlier in the year, Young shared his prediction for the new iPhone, and now, has reiterated them following leaks earlier in the day. Apple will introduce under-display Face ID for the ‌iPhone‌ 14 Pro and Pro Max models, but it’s not yet known how the rest of the lineup will work.
Regarding iPhone 14 leaks, great to see. We showed under panel Face ID in the 2022 Pro models in June…Also showed the 2023 lineup as well. pic.twitter.com/dGcm5n0bEO

I would say under panel Face ID isn't final yet. Still being worked on. It is easier than under panel cameras though.

It’s important to note that, as we’re more than a year away from the iPhone 14, there’s no guarantee that we’ll see these elements come to life. According to Young, Apple’s still not sure whether it will choose under-display Touch ID or under-display Face ID, and though it could add both, it’s reported that Apple would prefer to focus on Face ID as a more cost-effective option.
As well as a notchless design for the first time, it’s likely that next year’s models will sport a thicker design that will allow Apple to properly house the cameras on the iPhone, rather than the controversial camera bump. Other rumors include rounded buttons and a titanium frame.
It’s also thought that Apple will discontinue the mini iPhone from its ranks after this year’s iPhone 13 mini, so we’ll only see an iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
