New iPhones to come in colors including red, blue, orange?

It looks like, when Apple unveils its 2018 iPhone lineup in two months’ time, you could have a broad set of new colors to choose from. That’s according to a couple of new reports claiming that the next iPhone X will include a gold option, while the cheaper 6.1-inch iPhone will get red, blue and orange.

The bulk of the fresh revelations have come from TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a research note obtained by MacRumors, the well-connected analyst says that the new iPhone X will still come in more familiar black and white casings, while we can expect grey and white for the 6.1-inch model.

Quickly following up on Kuo’s report, veteran tech leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer has tweeted that iPhones in all of the colors mentioned by Kuo, along with yellow and pink, are currently being prototyped, though he fails to specify which colors are being considered for which exact models.

If red does materialize, this would likely be part of Apple’s range of PRODUCT(RED) devices, from which a share of revenue is donated to the (RED) charitable initiative tackling HIV/AIDS. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were released in this color as recently as April.

Kuo expects the 6.1-inch iPhone to feature an LCD display and be priced beneath $700. There’s definitely a precedent for a rainbow-hued iPhone range in the midmarket. In 2013, Apple launched the cut-price iPhone 5c in plastic backs of blue, green, pink, yellow and white, all pictured above.
