The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus expected to launch on Wednesday have already been widely reported to come with pressure-sensitive Force Touch features. However, there is increasing evidence that, in the new handsets, this technology could actually be a more advanced “3D” version than previously thought.
Whereas the recently-launched Force Touch MacBooks and Apple Watch are capable of detecting the difference between a tap and a press, the new iPhones will also be able to discern an even deeper press. This information was revealed by 9to5Mac citing unnamed knowledgeable sources, who apparently also believe that the “Force Touch” display in these devices could instead be dubbed the “3D Touch Display”.
Patently Apple has pointed out further evidence in favor of these revelations – specifically, what could be the patent for this “3D” display, said to be so-called as it will allow “three dimensions” of pressure input. 9to5Mac has added that the iPad Pro is also expected to have a 3D Force Touch display. Could yet more exciting details about this technology leak ahead of its supposed big reveal on Wednesday?
