New LCD model iPhone rumors

Apple is set to release three brand new iPhones this fall, including two high-end models with OLED displays, as well as a 6.1-inch iPhone with LCD display. It is this model that has been a hot topic this week as KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo has shared a few details about this iPhone, via Chinese site Feng.

In an earlier report we were led to believe the new lower-end iPhone would include 3D Touch, however, it appears this will not be the case due to cost constraints. Instead, it seems Apple are focusing on creating a stronger display glass designed to be more impact resistant as well as lighter and thinner. This is because it is likely to use a Cover Glass Sensor technology. The two other iPhones coming in the fall are also likely to use the CGS technology, as well as all new phones moving forward, perhaps meaning 3D Touch could be removed from future iPhones.

The phone might also include a thin-film sensor as well as the touch film sensor. We are still in the dark about what this sensor is for, however, we do know it will increase the cost of the touch panel by 15%, resulting in a higher purchase price of $23 to $26.

Kuo also predicts the 6.1-inch iPhone will make up 65-75% of sales due to its lower price. Despite not having OLED technology, it is still likely to support Face ID.
