New leak shows off CAD images of iPhone XI range

A set of four leaked CAD images showcasing the iPhone XI from various angles. The model is labeled "iphone-6.1" with the date "2019-05-10" inscribed on the back. The phone features dual rear cameras and a slim design with rounded edges.

New renders of the iPhone XI and its counterparts have leaked online.

First reported by Slashleaks, the new images are reportedly CAD renders leaked from production factories. It’s these CAD renders that are usually sent to case and accessory makers to design products to work with the new iPhone range.

Whether these renders are real or not remains to be seen, but they do correspond to the rumors we’ve been hearing about the new camera set-up on the rear of the iPhone.

Set for release in September, the new trio of iPhones are expected to keep their 5.8 and 6.5-inch OLED displays (XS and XS Max successors) and 6.1-inch LCD display (XR 2).

The new 5.8 and 6.5-inch iPhones, however, are reported to come packaged with three cameras, whilst the LCD iPhone will feature a dual camera set-up for the first time.

When the camera ‘bump’ was first leaked online earlier in the year, many criticized Apple for moving away from its sleek aesthetics and beautiful designs.

The bump and the positioning of the cameras on the bump doesn’t look like a product that would come out of the Cupertino company’s headquarters, though it appears Apple is putting function over style for this year’s release.

Some were curious as to why Apple would introduce a square bump for a dual-lens camera on the iPhone XR when the iPhone XS and XS Max had a pill-shaped bump on the rear.

Perhaps Apple is working to add some distinction to the previous iPhone models or cut costs during manufacturing, though neither can be used as an excuse for an ugly rear design.

The new rear camera is expected to feature an ultra-wide-angle lens on the iPhone XS and XS Max successors, allowing for a greater level of zoom.

A second lens on the new iPhone XR, on the other hand, is also expected to increase the level of zoom.

Aside from the changes on the rear of the device, all three models are expected to keep their current look, alongside a new frosted glass backing.

The iPhone XR successor is also expected to debut with new colors, including lavender and green for the first time.

These renders give us the clearest view yet at the new iPhone range. What do you think of them so far? Let us know on Twitter using @AppleMagazine and keep it locked for the latest.
