New leak shows off new 16-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

A close-up of a 16-inch MacBook Pro keyboard shows the top-left portion with number keys, special characters, and the delete key. The Touch Bar is prominently featured above the layout. The speaker grille is partially visible on the right side.

Apple has accidentally leaked images of the new 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Rumors have been circulating for months over a new MacBook Pro with an all-new design and keyboard, and now it appears as though the company has confirmed its existence.

The device was first referenced in the macOS Catalina 10.15.1 beta, and now that the update is officially out, it seems as though even more new references have been made.

As first reported by 9to5Mac, Apple’s latest software update has revealed an image of the new 16-inch MacBook Pro, along with its updated Touch Bar and Touch ID layout, which differs from previous 15-inch MacBook Pro layouts, signalling a major change for the firm.

Indeed, the new 16-inch MacBook Pro has been spotted with a Touch ID power button that is entirely separate from the rest of the Touch Bar, very different from the current 15-inch MacBook Pro which has the Touch ID button as an extension of the Touch Bar.

Rumors have also suggested that the new MacBook Pro will sport an escape key that is separate from the rest of the Touch Bar, though there’s no confirmation in the current image.

However, considering the Touch ID button is now standalone, the escape key could be, too.

Apple first leaked the 16-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌ with an icon in the ‌macOS Catalina‌ 10.15.1 beta, though these icons were removed ahead of the public release.

That makes us wonder whether the all-new 16-inch MacBook Pro with a redesigned keyboard will be released in the coming weeks or whether it will be saved until 2020, as it would surely make sense to keep references in the new OS if a release was imminent?

It had been reported that Apple would release the new MacBook in October, but Apple has decided not to host an October event this year and other rumored products, like the AirPods Pro, were released earlier this week without much fanfare or excitement.

Still, there’s time yet for Apple to release the MacBook Pro before the end of the year.
