New M3 Mac: A Look at the Next-Generation Specs With the October release window drawing near, rumors are swirling about the specifications of Apple's new M3 Macs. According to recent reports, these next-generation computers are poised to feature the same cores as the existing M2 chips, but with an 8-core CPU and 10-GPU. Here's what we know about the potentially powerful M3 chip, including a possible new version of the Mac mini.

MacBook Air 15 Inch

A report stemming from Mark Gurman’s Bloomberg “Power On” newsletter has shed light on what could be an exciting advancement in Apple’s Mac line. The company is allegedly testing a Mac model, identified as “Mac15,12,” equipped with the M3 chip, an 8-core CPU made up of four high-performance cores and four efficiency cores, alongside a 10-GPU and 24GB of RAM. This would closely resemble the existing M2 Mac mini but would be furnished with the updated M3 chip for enhanced performance.

In addition to the M3 Mac mini, there are whispers of six different variations of M3-powered Macs. Third-party developer logs acquired by Bloomberg have revealed the existence of M3-powered 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Airs, the 13-inch MacBook Pro, the iMac, and the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.

The next-generation Apple Silicon chip could benefit from a cutting-edge 3nm fabrication process, which would decrease the distances between transistors on the chip, promising increased performance and efficiency.

While the base model M3 Mac mini’s release remains uncertain, Bloomberg’s reports have marked October as the month for Apple’s first unveiling of M3-powered Macs. Likely contenders for this initial release include the 13-inch MacBook Pro, the 24-inch iMac, and the 13-inch MacBook Air.

These rumors, if true, indicate significant strides in Mac innovation. With October fast approaching, tech enthusiasts won’t have to wait long to see if these speculated features come to fruition.
