Though it had seemed pretty likely that Apple was preparing to launch a new 4-inch iPhone early next year, a new report has thrown something of a wrench in the works, claiming that the company will instead be launching a 4-inch “iPhone 7C” in September 2016.
This report from MicGadget cites its sources as “companies that supply parts to the company Foxconn”, Apple’s main Chinese manufacturing partner, and unsurprisingly predicts the small device to be housed in metal and have the mid-range US pricing of $400-500.
More bizarrely, it claims that the “iPhone 7C” will launch in September, but before the announcement of the iPhone 7. Early September is the traditional annual bracket for Apple to unveil its higher-end handsets, so revealing the small phone at the same event as its bigger brothers seems a more plausible plan for Apple.
This strange detail, plus the more reliable source of numerous previously-released details of the next 4-inch iPhone, suggests that this new story should not be given too much credibility – at least until other reports arrive corroborating it.
