A new survey has revealed the top four reasons why current iPhone users aren’t upgrading their device to the iPhone 8 or iPhone X. Perhaps unsurprisingly, 31% haven’t upgraded because the new devices are simply too expensive.
This new data, collected from 1,500 people, has been produced by Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Olson and has been shared by Phillip Elmer-DeWitt.
The biggest percentage of those questioned, 44%, claim they haven’t upgraded because their current iPhone works fine. This perhaps suggests the new features aren’t exciting enough to warrant users buying a whole new device. 31% claim the new device is too expensive and at a starting price of $999 that feedback isn’t surprising. Finally, 8% haven’t upgraded because they prefer a larger screen and 17% have other reasons.
Rumors suggest Apple will be releasing three new iPhones this year, which could address some of these issues. It is possible one will have a 5.8-inch OLED display, one a 6.5 OLED display and the final one will have a 6.1-inch LCD display and will be far cheaper.
The three phones are likely to have some of the most popular features from the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X including a TrueDepth camera for Face ID, a faster A12 processor and an edge-to-edge display.
