New Versions of iPod Touch, Nano and Shuffle for 14 July?

Only a month ago, we suggested the possibility that Apple is waving goodbye to the iPod, as exciting new products like Apple Music and the iPhone 6S attract more and more attention at the iPod’s expense. Well, things might be looking slightly different on Tuesday, as that’s when French website iGen has said that surprise new versions of the iPod Touch, Nano and Shuffle will arrive.

The iPod Touch looks likely to be in line for the most significant update. iGen is largely basing its report of new iPods on its publication of internal model numbers, saying that the new Touch will be numbered n102, compared to the latest current model’s number of n78. This big leap in numbers, iGen speculates, may be because the new Touch will come with a 64-bit processor.

The Nano, on the other hand, will be updated from n31 to n31a, while the Shuffle will go up from n12b to n12d. It therefore seems likely that these iPods will receive only very small changes – possibly, iGen suggests, the new colors that were recently noticed in iTunes 12.2. These colors, including gold, dark blue and dark pink, are pictured in that software on the iPod Touch, too.
