New Video Marks Start of Filming for Star Wars: Episode VIII

Lucasfilm has announced the start of filming and confirmed the cast for Star Wars: Episode VIII. The next cinematic episode in the legendary sci-fi saga has also been previewed in a new production video.

Stars of the huge global hit The Force Awakens, including Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, are returning for Episode VIII, the principal photography of which began today at London’s Pinewood Studios. New cast members, meanwhile, include Hollywood veterans Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern and promising starlet Kelly Marie Tran.

Star Wars: Episode VIII, to use its current formal title, is pencilled in for release on December 15, 2017. The short preview video sheds very little light on the movie’s plot details, though it seems reasonable to assume that Hamill’s Luke Skywalker and Ridley’s Rey will play pivotal roles.
