Nintendo to Launch Android-Powered Games Console?

The legendary video game company Nintendo is set to release a new dedicated games console, called the Nintendo NX, in 2016 – we know that. However, we know very little else about the console. All we can do at the moment is follow rumors – and one rumor that has just surfaced is that, in a potentially revolutionary change, the Nintendo NX will run the Android operating system.

The Japanese news outlet Nikkei has reported about an “insider” describing the console’s operating system as “loaded with Android”, due to an intention to “speed up getting all game developers on board”.

Tellingly, Nikkei has previously correctly predicted many of Nintendo’s moves, including its formal announcement of the 3DS XL – and, last month, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata cited the NX as having “a brand new concept” and not being “a simple “replacement” for Nintendo 3DS or Wii U.” A dedicated gaming console powered by Android could certainly be – if you will excuse the pun – a big game-changer.
