A number of films distributed by Sony Pictures have been leaked online after a high-profile cyber-attack. One of the films is the new remake of Annie, which stars Cameron Diaz. Reports claimed that the company had shut its internal systems down last week due to an IT-related issue.
Other films that appear to have leaked include the new Brad Pitt movie Fury, which has been released in cinemas but is not yet available on DVD. Also online illegally are To Write Love on Her Arms, Mr. Turner and Still Alice. A source from Sony reportedly said “The theft of Sony Pictures Entertainment content is a criminal matter, and we are working closely with law enforcement to address it.” The company are yet to make a further statement.
The leak may be related to the new film The Interview, in which Seth Rogen plays one of two reporters who have been granted an interview with Kim Jong-Un. Some have suggested that North Korea may be involved in the leaks as retaliation. A link to North Korea has neither been proved nor disproved. North Korea had called the film “the most undisguised sponsoring of terrorism as well as a war action” earlier this year, with Rogen saying “People don’t usually wanna(sic) kill me for one of my movies until after they’ve paid 12 bucks for it” after UN envoy Ja Song-Nam claimed that there would be a “merciless response” if the film’s release went ahead.
