OneDrive on iOS Now Allowing In-App Office File Creation

While the OneDrive iOS app has long been good for making use of Microsoft’s cloud storage service on iPhones and iPads, it hasn’t been possible to make completely new Office files from within the app… until now. A fresh update adds this functionality with version 7.8 of the app.

Now, to make a new Office file within the app, you can simply tap the + symbol near the right hand corner of the user interface before tapping, on the menu that is brought up, ‘Word Document’, ‘Excel Spreadsheet’ or ‘PowerPoint Presentation’ – as you can see in our screenshot above.

Then, you should be sent to the separate Word, Excel or PowerPoint app, where the new file will be quickly created. It’s a simple new function, but one that many corporate and productive users of iOS devices – especially the very much built-for-work iPad Pro tablets – should readily appreciate.

The Microsoft OneDrive iOS app is free to download for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
