“Syndicate-meets-Monument Valley-meets-Worms”. That’s how developer SMAC Games has described its open world adventure game Tokyo 42, which is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2017.
Set in a condensed and vivid recreation of a future Tokyo, the game sees the player endeavor to elude threats in a world of assassins by exploring the environment, taking up missions, and amassing funds and their underworld reputation. SMAC should have likened it to PS1-era Grand Theft Auto, too…

Paul Kilduff-Taylor, Joint Managing Director at the game’s publisher Mode 7, has described Tokyo 42 as “an action game to its colorful core”, pointing out the opportunities to dodge and weave bullets and grenades while tackling rival gang members, corporate drones or the police.
In a post on the European arm of the official PlayStation blog, Kilduff-Taylor has revealed that he “can’t wait to show you this game on PS4 early in 2017.” That’s presumably when all three versions of the game will be released; on Twitter, the official word hasn’t cited a release date more specific than 2017.
