Oppo teases its new Apple Watch competitor

A sleek, black smartwatch with a rectangular face, displaying the current time with white hour and minute hands and a red second hand. The brand name "Oppo" is visible at the top of the watch face. With its dark strap and elegant design, this Oppo smartwatch stands as a strong Apple Watch competitor.

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo has teased its new smartwatch.

The new image shows a smartwatch that looks very similar to the Apple Watch, with a rounded square metal case and leather-like straps, offering a premium smartwatch feel.

The new smartwatch, which is expected to launch in the coming weeks, has a curved glass case, similar to the Apple Watch and indeed the Infinity Edge Display on Samsung phones.

What’s more, the smartwatch has two buttons on the right-hand side of the case, similar to the Apple Watch, with the left-hand side blank, again the same as the Apple Watch design.

Oppo’s president of global marketing, Brian Shen, shared the new teaser on Twitter, promising that its curved screen and 3D glass would be a “game-changer” for smartwatches.

Though Shen doesn’t offer any information on what 3D glass means, it’s believed that this refers to the way the glass travels down the sides of the watch, offering an edge-to-edge display.

The device is also expected to feature an ECG app, similar to the Apple Watch.

Though the company was expected to launch the new smartwatch at the Mobile World Congress this month, it’s expected that the unveiling has been cancelled because of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Instead, Oppo will launch the watch online later this month.
