Apple has just released what might be the last update for El Capitan on the Mac. OS X 10.11.6 is now available as a free download for all El Capitan users, and enhances security and squashes bugs.
Like many previous updates to El Capitan, OS X 10.11.6 is not primarily concerned with bringing major new features and visible changes. Instead, the focus is very much on tinkering with what’s under the hood. However, there are much bigger changes in store for the Mac with this fall’s macOS Sierra, including integration of the virtual personal assistant Siri and payment service Apple Pay.
Therefore, OS X 10.11.6 could turn out to be the last version of the Mac operating system using the OS X name. The update is now available through Software Update in the Mac App Store.
