Using emojis in Facebook Messenger will soon become even more fun – as Facebook is standardizing the service’s emojis while introducing over 1,500 newly designed emojis reflecting the world’s diversity.
Facebook has revealed that, with a “new set of standardized emojis”, there will be just “one emoji standard for the Messenger world”. In other words, no matter what emoji you select within the iOS app, it will look the same whichever platform the recipient is viewing it on. This will bring an end to what Facebook calls “broken-looking black boxes or emojis that just don’t make sense.”
Meanwhile, the more than 1,500 freshly designed emojis will include “gender-agnostic options and multi-colored emojis”. There’s a particular emphasis on boosting the female representation; so, “using Messenger emojis, you’ll see a female police officer, runner, pedestrian, surfer and swimmer for the very first time”, while you will even be able to choose the skin color of emojis that you use.
These new emojis, along with an “emoji picker” which you will be able to bring up by tapping a new emoji icon at the Messenger composer’s left, will begin rolling out globally tomorrow. The Facebook Messenger app can be freely downloaded for iPhone and iPad from the iOS App Store.
