PayPal confirms it’s integrating Tap to Pay on iPhones

Tap to Pay on iPhone

PayPal will take advantage of Apple’s Tap to Pay technology in a new update.

The company has confirmed its plans to adopt Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone feature, and it will be possible to use Apple Pay with a branded PayPal debit and credit card for the first time.

Speaking in an update to investors, PayPal said that it was “working with Apple to enhance our offerings for PayPal and Venmo merchants and consumers.”

Speaking of the launch, a press release for PayPal read: “Leveraging Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone technology, US merchant customers will soon be able to accept contactless debit or credit cards and mobile wallets, including Apple Pay, using an iPhone and the PayPal or Venmo iOS app.

“Adding Apple Pay as a payment option in PayPal’s unbranded checkout flows on merchant platforms, including the PayPal Commerce Platform. Next year, US customers will be able to add PayPal and Venmo network-branded credit and debit cards to Apple Wallet and use them anywhere Apple Pay is accepted.”

Apple’s Tap to Pay technology launched earlier this year, allowing merchants to accept Apple Pay, a contactless credit or debit card payment through NFC technology. It renders card readers redundant and allows users to take advantage of their iPhone’s full capabilities.
