When can we expect the next generation Apple TV to arrive? It could be as soon as early next year, judging from a DigiTimes report that cites sources from “Taiwan-based supply chain makers”.
These sources have apparently claimed that the fifth generation Apple TV will enter trial production this month and volume production in the first quarter of 2016. This upcoming home hub will supposedly also come with a new CPU for much better hardware performance, and have unspecified “new functions to help it no longer serve only as a set-top box”.
That Apple could be readying to launch a new Apple TV only a few months after the fourth generation model was released does seem unlikely – and it is worth taking into account that DigiTimes has a patchy track record with the accuracy of its Apple product predictions. In want of similar reports from elsewhere, this story should therefore be treat with a large degree of scepticism.
