According to a new report, Apple Music has now surpassed Spotify’s subscriber count in the United States.

An anonymous industry source spoke to Digital Music News,Ā claiming Apple Music now has more paying subscribers and their lead is likely to increase even more by Christmas. The source is thought to be a major US-basedĀ distributorĀ and they also shared information about Tidal and Sirius XM’s subscriber counts. Both Apple Music and Spotify have more than 20 million US subscribers, according to the source, however, Apple Music is now “a hair ahead”.

This report does match predictions made by The Wall Street Journal in February. They stated the Apple Music’s US subscriber growth rate was at 5%, compared to Spotify’s 2% and they predicted Apple Music would overtake Spotify by the summer.

Apple areĀ already dominating the phone, tablet, computer, and speaker industries with successfulĀ launches of the iPhone X, HomePod, new MacBooks and more. Apple are striving to create a world where users own an Apple device for every aspect of their life. The HomePod, for example, includes features specific to Apple Music.

Now, Apple areĀ also starting to dominate the music streaming industry. They recently set a new record for the most musicĀ streamed in a single day, following the release of Drake’s fifth album, Scorpion.

What do you think the future holds for Spotify? Do you prefer Apple Music?
