Carmaker Porshe has confirmed that owners of its vintage models will soon be able to pay to have Apple’s CarPlay installed in their devices, bringing older vehicles into the 21st century.

Porshe has confirmed plans to sell CarPlay kits for classic vehicles, offering the key functionality that CarPaly offers, but neatly packed into the dashboard of retro Porshe cars.

Though third parties have been offering high-tech integrations for older Porshe cars for a number of years, this is the first time that the manufacturer has offered an in-house solution, Porsche Classic Communication Management. The idea is that users can have the latest technology inside of their old vehicles, making them more appealing for everyday driving.

Instead of relying on the radio or a tape deck to listen to music on the go, CarPlay integration means vintage Porshe cars will now come with a 3.5-inch touchscreen, Siri support, as well as Bluetooth, USB, aux inputs, and an SD slot for managing music and content on the go.

The new PCCM kit also features knobs and buttons, which gives CarPay a vintage feel without having to impact on the design of the vehicle too much. These kits can be installed on any Porshe from the 1960s 911 through to the 1990s Porshe 993, offering mass appeal.

As first reported by PistonHeads, the new kit doesn’t come cheap.

Although only available in Germany right now, the kits retail at the equivalent of $1,500, and though that may seem pricy for a car radio, it offers drivers endless hours of entertainment from a high-end screen.
