“Roberto and Lindsay are expanding the Pretty Little Liars universe with more murder, mysteries, and scandal, and we can’t wait,” these are the words of Sarah Aubrey head of original content at HBO Max, referring to the Pretty Little Liars reboot that is going to be headed by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina alum, and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, who worked with Aguirre-Sacasa on the latter series.
Pretty Little Liars was quite a successful show and it is no surprise that HBO Max is going for a reboot, seeing how younger viewers have been attracted to the show. And while the reboot has been shrouded in mystery up until now, we now know the two stars of the series – Batwoman alum Malia Pyles and Two Distant Strangers‘ Zaria, who are joining the already signed Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, and Maia Reficco.
“We’re such huge fans of what I. Marlene King and her iconic cast created, we knew that we had to treat the original series as #CANON and do something different,” Aguirre-Sacasa and Calhoon Bring said earlier when the reboot was officially announced. “So we’re leaning into the suspense and horror in this reboot, which hopefully will honor what the fans loved about the hit series while weaving in new, unexpected elements.”
As far as the stars are concerned, Malia Pyles, whose credits include such shows as Baskets and How to Get Away With Murder, will portray Minnie, the youngest of the Little Liars. Zaria, who has also appeared in Dad Stop Embarrassing Me and will appear in the upcoming Bosch spinoff, will play Faran, a poised, disciplined ballerina with aspirations to make it out of Millwood.
This is the information we have now and it seems that the Pretty Little Liars reboot is going to be very close to the original, which is why we cannot wait for it to come out on HBO Max.
