Pro Display XDR customers must use Apple-provided cloth to clean their displays

Apple has warned Pro Display XDR customers not to clean their new display with their own cloths.

The company officially released the Pro Display XDR to the public yesterday and offers an optional nano-texture glass finish, etched at a nanometer level to cut down on glare, offering a stunning matte look that works well outdoors and in high-light situations such as studios.

The option costs an additional $1,000, and it impacts the way to display should be cleaned.

In official support documents released alongside the new device, Apple says that the new Pro Display XDR with nano-texture glass must be cleaned with a dry polishing cloth provided with Apple, and that water and liquid should not be used to clean the glass or make contact.

The company warned users that they should never use third-party cloths to clean the glass, even if the one provided by Apple is lost, as it could damage the makeup of the display.

“Never use any other cloths to clean the nano-texture glass. If you lose the included polishing cloth, contact Apple to order a replacement polishing cloth,” the company said.

And that cloth is a big deal! Apple has also shared instructions on how to clean the polishing cloth, suggesting that it should be hand-washed with dish soap and water, rinsed thoroughly, and left to air dry for at least 24 hours before it’s used again to clean the Pro Display XDR.

Users who do not purchase the optional nano-texture glass upgrade need not worry – they can use a polishing cloth that came with their display or any other clean, dry, micro-fiber cloth to wipe off smudges and dust from their screen.

What’s more, they can disconnect their display from its power and add a small amount of water to properly clean the standard glass.

The new Pro Display XDR, which is the sister product to the new Mac Pro, is now available to order.

Apple has confirmed that standard displays will ship by December 20, but that the new nano-texture glass display won’t arrive at customers’ addresses until the New Year.
