The first public betas of iOS 15.5, iPadOS 15.5, and macOS 12.4 have now been released by Apple to members of the Cupertino company’s public software testing program.
Apple seeded the first developer betas of these latest variants of the operating systems on Tuesday, and the first public betas should be essentially unchanged from those. Those wishing to acquire the builds can do so via the website for the Apple Beta Software Program.
Although Apple is yet to confirm any new features for these three operating-system versions, it seems from reports that some changes have been discovered in code.
Several references have been spotted in the iOS 15.5 code, for example, to “Apple Classical”. This appears to be referring to the classical music app that Apple has previously said was planned for 2022, but which hasn’t yet been officially named.
Indeed, no such app has yet been released – not even in beta form – but the mentions of “Apple Classical” in the code are surely an indicator that this could change very soon.
The release notes for the betas state that users of Universal Control will need to update both their iPad and Mac to the new betas in order for the feature to work.
In addition, Apple has strongly urged against the installation of the betas onto primary or “mission-critical” devices, given the potential risk – however remote – of data loss or other problems. It is instead recommended that testers install the betas onto non-essential or secondary devices, as well as make sure important data has been suitably backed up before they carry out the update.
