Put an End to Drinking and Driving with the Breathometer

If this isn’t a smart idea, I don't know what is.

Breathometer will be introducing the world’s first smartphone breathalyzer.

It’s the size of a standard car key and will plug into the headphone jack of a smartphone, then will work in conjunction with an app to measure blood alcohol concentration (BAC).

It's definitely a good idea. Many of us have a good idea of how much we can drink and still feel safe to drive, but we don't know what a Breathalyzer is going to say. Even though we still feel we have our wits about us, we could still blow legally inebriated. Why not have a device with us that we can blow into that will help decide for us?

A survey was conducted examining the drinking and riving habits and experiences of its participants. These are the findings:

64 percent of respondents indicated that either they have driven while intoxicated or have been in a car with a driver under the influence. This extremely high number confirms the need for Breathometer as millions of Americans are at risk every day.

67 percent of respondents know someone that has been involved in an accident involving someone under the influence, verifying that drunk driving has hit home for the majority of Americans.

80 percent of respondents know someone that has received a DUI or DWI.

Once the Breathometer is available this summer, there are plans for it to go beyond just identifying users of having an inebriated state. It will be able to connect to local transportation services to order up a cab for those unable to drive.

The device/app combo will be FDA approved and is currently patent pending. Additionally, the company launched an Indigogo campaign, hoping to secure the final funding it needs to allow customers to pre-order the device/app. There will be pledge levels from $20 to $500.
