iOS device owners who love the Tomb Raider franchise are in for a real treat later this month, as it is on August 27 that Square Enix will release the turn-based puzzle game Lara Croft GO on the platform.
The game is being billed as a successor to Hitman GO, which was one of the most surprisingly successful mobile games of last year. Adapting the bald assassin to the puzzle genre might not have been expected to reap much fruit, but the initially peculiarĀ game won over both critics and casual gamers in large numbers.
Lara Croft GO looks likely to similarly impress fans of the legendary female explorer who are much more used to handling her in the action genre. Square Enix has pledged “a never-before-seen take on the iconic franchise” of Tomb Raider, adding that the game will feature “challenging levels, gorgeous visuals and a mesmerizing soundtrack.”
It remains to be seen whether Lara Croft GO, like its Hitman predecessor, will be among the few high profile mobile games to avert the freemium price model, but it seems unlikely that Square Enix will divert too much from the formula that has made the first GO title a hit.
