Qualcomm Said to Supply All Modem Chips for Next iPhones

Contrary to recent reports that Intel will be making a significant slice of the modem chips for the iPhones expected to launch next month, industry sources have claimed to DigiTimes that Qualcomm, a traditional Apple partner, will supply all of these chips.

According to these sources, Qualcomm will supply the chips in partnership with TSMC, as these components are manufactured using TSMC’s 20 nanometer process. Though the sources consider Intel unlikely to receive modem chip orders for the next iPhones, they added that a larger proportion of next year’s Apple handsets could come with Intel-made modem chips, as the Cupertino company is apparently seeking additional modem chip suppliers.

Though DigiTimes does not have a track record in consistently accurate predictions about upcoming Apple hardware, AppleInsider has observed that this particular story could be credible, as DigiTimes most often sources its news from the supply chain. This story’s sources have added that the Intel chips are also made in collaboration with TSMC, using 28 nanometer process technology.
