Reasons to Look Forward to Brie Larson as Captain Marvel

In July, it was announced that Room actress Brie Larson would take the lead role in the upcoming comic book adaptation Captain Marvel. That film isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until March 2019, but there are already signs that Larson will be excellent as the titular female superhero.

While there have been many different versions of Captain Marvel in the comics, it was in October 2014 that, announcing the film, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that its lead would be female. Known otherwise as Carol Danvers, this Captain Marvel “will be by far the strongest character we’ve ever had”, Feige told Vulture earlier this month.

Feige continued: “It’s important, then, to counterbalance that with someone who feels real. She needs to have a humanity to tap into, and Brie can do that.” Larson will become the first woman playing the title character in a Marvel Studios movie, and Feige’s words give us even more reason to be excited.
