A new report from Japanese blog Macotakara strengthens the credibility of theories that a number of intriguing features – including Bluetooth EarPods, plus the Smart Connector and True Tone display technology from the 9.7-inch iPad Pro – could appear in the iPhone 7.
A month ago, a spy spot of what could have been the iPhone 7 Plus leaked in China. Now, Macotakara says that this handset – the appearance of which, AppleInsider has humorously likened to cartoon robot Bender from Futurama – is likely to be “the real thing”. The blog further claims that a new set of Bluetooth EarPods, which will use the Lightning port for pairing and charging, are in the works.

Though Macotakara corroborates the now common rumor that the iPhone 7 will do away with the familiar headphone jack, the site adds that the phone should nonetheless continue to sport a single speaker, rather than the twin speakers that the jack’s absence could have made room for.
The site also claims that “two sensors will be added at the top portion but it is yet unclear for what purpose.” AppleInsider has speculated that the 9.7-inch iPad Pro’s True Tone technology, which automatically adjusts display colors upon sensing changing levels of ambient light, could be coming to the iPhone 7 – particularly as True Tone is indeed known to operate through use of twin sensors.
