Report Hints Bluetooth EarPods, True Tone Coming to iPhone 7

A new report from Japanese blog Macotakara strengthens the credibility of theories that a number of intriguing features ā€“ including Bluetooth EarPods, plus the Smart Connector and True Tone display technology from the 9.7-inch iPad Pro ā€“ could appear in the iPhone 7.

A month ago, a spy spot of what could have been the iPhone 7 Plus leaked in China. Now, Macotakara says that this handset ā€“ the appearance of which, AppleInsider has humorously likened to cartoon robot Bender from Futurama ā€“ is likely to be ā€œthe real thingā€. The blog further claims that a new set of Bluetooth EarPods, which will use the Lightning port for pairing and charging, are in the works.

Though Macotakara corroborates the now common rumor that the iPhone 7 will do away with the familiar headphone jack, the site adds that the phone should nonetheless continue to sport a single speaker, rather than the twin speakers that the jackā€™s absence could have made room for.

The site also claims that ā€œtwo sensors will be added at the top portion but it is yet unclear for what purpose.ā€ AppleInsider has speculated that the 9.7-inch iPad Proā€™s True Tone technology, which automatically adjusts display colors upon sensing changing levels of ambient light, could be coming to the iPhone 7 ā€“ particularly as True Tone is indeed known to operate through use of twin sensors.
