Some news outlets have today reported that the keynote at which Apple will announce the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus could take place on Friday 11 September. This is on the basis of a report from China that cites sources within Foxconn’s supply chain. However, reputable Apple tech news website 9to5Mac has been quick to scotch confidence that this is the definite date for the keynote.
The Chinese report that has been picked up on suggests that Apple’s new handsets will go to market on 18 September, a week after their announcement. Still, 9to5Mac has described Apple’s choice of this date as “extremely unlikely”.
The website has pointed out that this date falls on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks and that the Cupertino company tends to schedule its annual iPhone keynote for early in the week in order to encourage maximum press coverage before the new devices go on sale.
9to5Mac has also noted that, though Foxconn sources might know about a new iPhone’s design as the launch approaches, they are, especially at this early stage, unlikely to be aware of an on-sale date any more specific than the month.
