There’s nothing particularly original about a mobile game that involves exploring vibrant and colorful cartoon worlds and collecting coins. It is, however, certainly quirky for such a game to involve getting around by shifting the worlds rather than the on-screen playable character. Welcome to Land Sliders…
The free Land Sliders might be the debut game of cheekily boastful-sounding developer Prettygreat, but its staffers are no novices, having previously worked for Fruit Ninja studio Halfbrick and received investment from Hipster Whale of Crossy Road fame. There are clear similarities with that game, right down to Crossy Chicken as a surprise playable character – but it’s not the full story…
Basically, Land Sliders allows you to hurtle through many successive levels and worlds comprising of enemies to avert or attack, items to collect and little side-quests to complete. Frankly, we found the default control system quite disorientating when we first tried it, but there’s the option of a traditional ‘move the character’ mechanic for a more manageable difficulty curve.
Furthermore, the huge number of objectives and bonkers sense of humor – as can be seen in the above screenshot, you can even play as a toaster capable of collecting slices of bread – make Land Sliders a charming winner. It’s fun for both brief pick-up-and-play blasts and more sustained periods of gaming – though the latter could lead the novelty to wear off much sooner.
