REVIEW: Need for Speed: No Limits (iOS)

The Need for Speed racing series has been around since the early 1990s – and tastes for underground velocity and supercar tinkering haven’t gone anywhere. Now, Electronic Arts has brought out the first Need for Speed title made exclusively for, rather than merely ported to, mobile platforms.

The main meat of this free-to-play game is, of course, racing – against opponents on the track, in time trials, and against occasional boss characters. The controls are simple but pleasing to the touch, and you can amass virtual currency to spend on updating parts of your cars. You start with just one car, a fetching blue one, but there are many more to unlock – and doing so will take you hours.

As you can see from our screenshots, it’s also a gorgeous-looking game, full of intricate details that really bring the atmosphere of dangerous street racing. Better still, despite the stunning looks, we still found races in full flow to run like greased lightning.

Ironically given the title, it’s a freemium game and so, without spending actual money, there are limits… but you aren’t likely to come across them too often. Time to hit the streets again…
