If you’ve seen the Poldark episode that aired last night, shortly after our review, you’ll know that the threat of the debtor’s prison now hangs over the show’s lead, soldier-turned-struggling-businessman Ross Poldark. And that sets up quite a chilling chain of events for him and his circle…
Nonetheless, there aren’t too many events in that chain. Longtime adversary George Warleggan has bought Poldark’s huge debt of $1,400 and demanded the repayment by Christmas, confident that Ross won’t be able to afford it. Yes, Warleggan’s still deeply unpleasant even for a villain. Meanwhile, the blossoming romance between Caroline Penvenen and Dr Dwight Enys sees a new obstacle.
However, it’s Poldark’s attempts to figure out how to avert jail that will most firmly grip you. Surely there’s no getting out of this one? Catch the episode, to air as part of the PBS Masterpiece series at 9pm Eastern Time this Sunday, and you might – yes, we’re resisting spoilers – get an answer to that question.
