It’d be fair to call Sony’s action adventure series Uncharted one of the most revered game franchises of recent times. Its star, treasure hunter Nathan Drake, has finally made his welcome debut on iOS – even if it’s hardened Uncharted fans who stand to benefit the most from this free-to-download puzzle game.
If you’re wondering how the action-packed and exotic world of Nathan Drake could transfer effectively to the puzzle game format, you’re clearly not familiar with Lara Croft GO, the well-received formula of which Uncharted: Fortune Hunter largely adheres to. Assisted along the way by grizzled mentor Sully, you can guide Drake through a succession of strategic challenges with a forgiving difficulty curve.
There are lots of coins and treasures to pick up in the process, while staying within a prescribed number of moves for each puzzle will gain you a loot key for opening chests packed with especially exciting goodies. You can also unlock outfits, weapon skins and other items that, via a Sony Entertainment Network account, can be transferred for use in the multiplayer mode of the upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Though clearly designed with thought and care for the most part, the slightly repetitive puzzles and relative lack of originality in the game concept could leave Fortune Hunter with rather limited appeal to those gamers who aren’t already well-versed with the Uncharted universe.
