Rumor: Apple May Launch iPhone 5S Earlier Than Expected

According to the Chinese-language newspaper Commercial Times, Apple will begin trial production of the iPhone 5S, as it’s being called, in December. The initial production count will be between 50,000 to 100,000 units, and with a December trial we could see a launch before Fall 2013, which is when Apple typically likes to release new versions of their smartphone.

“Facing low yield rates in the production of iPhone 5, Apple has accelerated the certification processes for related parts and components for the iPhone 5S,” the paper revealed.

The focus of the article wasn’t only on the next generation of the iPhone 5, as they claimed a new version of the iPad will be released a quarter after the 5S. The reasoning behind this statement was that the display resolution of the latest version of the iPad did not meet the standards Apple was seeking.

Now, taking into account that this information is coming from a Chinese paper and should be considered at best a rumor, how does it make consumers feel? I for one have not purchased the iPhone 5 yet because I am waiting for my carrier upgrade, but for those who waited months and years for the iPhone 5, will an accelerated 5S launch cause some anger?

The fun aspect of this rumor is being able to speculating what the 5S might have under the hood. Will Apple incorporate the new A6X chip from the iPad in the next iPhone? Will we see an upgrade in the camera or more pixels per inch on the display? Will we see fixes in place for the side scrolling bug that has been reported?

We will without a doubt have more information on the 5S very soon, and much like the iPhone 5, we can expect to know what upgrades are in store well before it goes on sale. The only thing we know to be 100% true is that the iPhone 5S is coming; it’s just a matter of when.
