According to Appleinsider.com, ”A so-called “iPad mini,” reportedly in the works at Apple for a late 2012 release, may be the first of the company’s tablet devices to include displays coated with indium tin oxide (ITO), an electrically conductive transparent substance that acts as an EMI shield and helps reduce radio interference.”
A Taiwan company by the name of Efun Technology has doubled its profits in recent years due to the production of flexible substrates coated with iTO films. The iTO coating is a super-thin lightweight coating that helps reduce radio frequency interference in mobile devices while also acting as electromagnetic shields.
Much of the company’s success has come from a recent partnership with Samsung. The company has applied its ITO technology on Samsung’s mobile handsets. The largest buzz is around the company making Apple one of its newest customers with the iPad mini tablet being the next to benefit from the ITO coating.
It is reported that the 7.85 inch iPad will be the first product from Apple to take advantage of the coating. There is also a rumor that the iPad 4 (9.7 inch) tablet will have the ITO coating applied to it.
