A woman of 60-ish falls for an art director about half her age and makes persistent, comedic attempts to entice him. That’s the basic gist of Hello, My Name is Doris, the acclaimed comedy drama that has just hit the iTunes Store and brings a particularly eye-opening performance out of lead star Sally Field.
Field might now be 69, but her awesome comedic skills haven’t diminished in the 20 years since she last took a lead role in a movie. And that’s despite her now exhibiting them on the modest stage of a low-budget indie. Critic Susan Wloszczyna has remarked that if the film “is somewhat shakier in its plotting than Field is with her choices onscreen, it matters little considering that basically she is the movie.”
Wloszczyna is far from the only critic that has lauded the movie and Field’s performance in particular. In fact, Hello, My Name is Doris has attained a rating of 83% among critics on Rotten Tomatoes – and we also give it a spot in the new issue of AppleMagazine, which can be yours when you subscribe through our free app. The movie itself is available for download now from the iTunes Store.
