Samsung Boss Targets Closer BlackBerry Ties

Samsung mobile chief JK Shin has called for the tech giant to form stronger ties with BlackBerry after rumors that it was to buy the company were dismissed. Shin has said that he is eager to build Samsung’s relationship with BlackBerry, saying he would rather strengthen the partnership between his company and the Canadian firm rather than buying it.

Mr. Shin told The Wall Street Journal: “We want to work with BlackBerry and develop this partnership, not acquire the company.” His company has denied that it wishes to purchase BlackBerry’s security software, saying that it is focused on growing its own Knox platform. Nonetheless, it’s thought that Samsung could be interested in BBM and the BlackBerry Hub. Rumors suggest that Samsung software may appear on BlackBerry devices due to the agreement between the two companies.

BlackBerry’s share prices soared after reports the company was about to be bought by Samsung surfaced. They fell again after the reports were denied. BlackBerry have recently gone back to basics by announcing the launch of the BlackBerry Classic, a business-focused phone that features a characteristic physical keyboard.

Do you think BlackBerry has had its day? Maybe you think that the brand can continue to survive in a different form? Will Samsung prevent BlackBerry disappearing from the popular consciousness? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
