It’s been a long time coming, but Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge phones from AT&T are finally in line for receiving Android 5.1.1, the latest available version of the Android operating system. This is apparently largely in preparation for the launch of mobile payments system Samsung Pay.
As previously reported by AppleMagazine, Samsung is rolling out its Apple Pay rival to the US after a successful trial in the company’s home market of South Korea. The service is launching in the US tomorrow, and Android Police reports that, in the run-up, various other current generation Samsung devices have become available for necessary OS updates on the initiative of mobile carriers.
Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the latter pictured above, whose mobile carrier is AT&T can use their devices to look for the update to Android 5.1.1 by accessing ‘Settings’, then ‘About Device’ and ‘Software Update’. The update is only about 670MB, which should make downloading it relatively quick and easy.
